The 1970 Ovation Eclipse (Model 1235-5) is a rare, vintage semi-hollowbody guitar from Ovation’s ‘Electric Storm’ series. Known for its unique 1970s aesthetic, it features Ovation’s signature Lyrachord (fiberglass) back, Höfner-made single-coil pickups, and a bolt-on neck.
The Eclipse is a fascinating piece of early-era Ovation history. Produced roughly between 1968 and 1973, it offered a distinct contrast to the acoustic-electric composite guitars the brand is more famous for.
Key features typically include:
- Body: Semi-hollow construction utilizing a Lyrachord (resin/glass fiber) back, paired with a maple top.
- Pickups: Two single-coil pickups, often sourced from Höfner, providing a distinct vintage tone.
