1980s Kay K-45 (The Rifle) electric travel guitar; Body: natural finish, With a few knocks and scrapes but nothing ugly. Fretboard: rosewood; Frets: very good ; Electrics: all working, new bridge pick up fitted; Hardware: very good Case: Original gig bag,well used and a non-original strap; at one time there was probably a strap button fitted on the top bout ; Overall condition: good. It’s nicely set up and it plays great. Here’s an opportunity to acquire a rare guitar that will only increase in value

Kay K45 rifle guitar.

These amazing little guitars were only made in the 1980’s as travel guitars being small and compact; also known as the “rifle” guitar and in the USA as the “Austin Hatchet”. It is made of solid wood with an inlaid stripe of lighter wood which is probably maple; running from the top of the headstock to the bottom of the guitar body on the back and also on the front.

There are two fantastic DiMarzio open humbucker pickups with cream surrounds; with two volume controls and a master tone control plus a three-way pickup selector switch and an “out of phase” switch.

There is an inset strap at the back with brass fitting plus brass inset holes for string threading.

The neck is a through neck with a twenty-two fret fretboard an unusual triple dot markers. The nut is in brass and the truss rod cover which has the “K” logo – and the headstock has a great shape and holds the mini Grover style tuners.
